What is Paint Protection Film / PPF?

PPF is a physical sheet of transparent wrap that is installed to paint with the sole goal of protection. Unlike vinyl wraps, PPF is a thick wrap comprised of multiple layers that is typically thicker than most paint jobs and when installed correctly can look nearly invisible. With most high quality films on the market, the film will have a self healing top layer which means if it gets scratched it will quite literally disappear after it sits in the sun…

Where to begin… Paint protection film provides your paint with a physical layer of polyurethane, that is thicker than most paint jobs, made to shield your paint from all the normal wear and tear that is associated with literally just owning a car. Things like paint chips from rocks, scratches, swirl marks, oxidation, staining, water spots, and so many more other hazards will be prevented with PPF. This service is the pinnacle when it comes to peace of mind over your vehicle.

What cars can have PPF installed on them?

Any and all! We could PPF your refrigerator is you wanted us to. Any sort of smooth surface can have PPF installed on it.

Which PPF coverage option should I chose?

The paint protection film package that you choose will depend on a few different factors, and that is why we always start off with the question “What is the reason you want PPF installed?”. If the answer is rock chips, then we would recommend our Rock Chip No Mo coverage option, but if the answer is I don’t want swirl marks in the paint then we may lean you towards The Full Deal coverage option. There is no one size fits all, and we want you to make the right investment for your situation.

Should I get PPF installed on my entire car?

We do not think a full body PPF installation is meant for everyone. This service is meant for people who cringe at the sight of rock chips, swirl marks and scratches in their vehicle and maybe get a little nervous at the thought of other people being around their car. No matter if your kids start drawing on it with a screwdriver or your friends rubs up against the paint, you know your paint will be protected.

Does PPF come with a Warranty?

Most paint protection film comes with a manufacture warranty that protects against bubbling, staining, yellowing, delaminating and cracking, typically around 10-12 years, and the same goes for the film we use at Dylan’s Detailing.

How do I care for my PPF?

Film doesn’t need much attention, but the little that it needs goes a long way in keep it in great shape. Having a ceramic coating is always recommended for a few reasons, having a slick layer for contaminants to slide off of a lot easier, and as an additional layer to protect your PPF. Wait protect PPF? I thought PPF was indestructible? Although it is tough to hurt PPF, it can happen with things like bird poop and hard water. If those 2 things sit on the PPF long enough it can eat through the self healing layer and essentially be a permanent stain. Again, rare, but it’s possible and you should take the extra precaution to prevent that. Along with the ceramic coating using a PPF specific detail spray is recommended for the very same reasons.

How long with PPF last?

Paint Protection Film companies are getting better and better at the production of PPF, so to see a 8 Year – 12 Year Warranty is nothing out of the ordinary. This warranty covers things like yellowing and cracking and does not refer to the installation itself.
